My Story

I grew up in rural Oregon in a large, chaotic, blended family with a love for the outdoors. I was inspired by a high school teacher to learn about psychology and to be a contributor to my community. All of these interests - nature, psychology and community - have guided my life and career choices.
I attended Willamette University earning a Bachelor's in Psychology. I studied abroad in Ecuador while in college and discovered my love for experiencing the world outside of my comfort zone. After graduating I worked in community mental health, where I made lifelong friendships. I was not yet ready to settle down, and worked hard to save enough money to spend a year traveling and volunteering in Central America, learning Spanish and experiencing life in another culture.
While working in community mental health and juvenile justice I discovered my passion for working with kids and families. I returned to school and received a Master's of Arts in Teaching and a Master's of Education in School Counseling. I have been working with youth and families in public schools in the Portland area for nearly 30 years.
I still love to travel, but am always happy to return to my home in Portland, where I have raised three boys and three dogs. I enjoy spending time in Oregon's natural beauty - running, camping, hiking, gardening, and walking with a friend in one of Portland's beautiful parks. I also enjoy reading, doing any kind of puzzle, and trying out new recipes.
